I have had many helmets. I've wanted O'Neal for a long time because they still make classic shaped helmets. I'm not a fan of the "more robotic" shape that most manufacturers have been making for years. The helmet must be worn for at least a few hours before the foam will relax into a shape that it will retain for most of its life. . So in order to be able to wear a new helmet properly for many years, it should feel a little tight when you try it on. It doesn't hurt, but it definitely compresses. Judging by the size grid, my old big skull fell squarely into the XL category. After reading many reviews and being wary of buying a helmet online I ordered the XXL and am glad I did. I fully expected the helmet to be sent back as too big (feels like it just came out of the box so will be too loose later). It turns out that XXL is spot on. It's tight as of this writing, but tight enough that after a ride or two it's perfect. A little uncomfortable now which means it will be just right. Also note that this helmet is made for an elongated head. My head is much longer than it is wide - so are most heads of European decency. If you are a rider with a rounder head, this helmet is probably putting too much pressure on the sides of your head rather than the front and back. The helmet I am replacing is the Arai Dual Sport Drudi. This helmet is much lighter.
