Review on VTech CM18045 Accessory Handset Business by Joy Jones

Setup/registration of 'used' components, 'Phone out of range OR no power to CL or base' message and 'Hold' line problem

We purchased the entire VTech office phone system - console, 2 bases, phone and a headset as used equipment from the Revain warehouse. So far this is a decent feature-packed phone system at a great price. The only flaw in the system design that I see is the "hold" line issue that others have mentioned. If you pick up the handset to make a call and then decide to switch to another line, it puts the original line on hold and doesn't hang up while you use the other line. If you selected the wrong line to call, THEN select another line to use and continue the outgoing call. to "not register" all those orphaned "used" devices before you can register them on the desk phone with the main console you have. If, like me, you bought a "used" main console, you must first unregister any devices connected to your main console before you can start over. Then register (pair) your "wireless” desk phone(s) with the main console desk phone as shown in the manual. If you bought a used cordless handset, when you connect the battery and place it in the charger, you will likely get a message "Phone out of range OR no power to CL or base" on the screen. This means that your mobile phone is an "orphan" and is still registered on another main console. You must remove this pre-registration before you can register it on your primary console. The manual tells zip how to do it. You do this by taking the phone off the charger and typing *331734# (nothing is displayed on the phone screen) to get a message that it's ready to be registered on your console. Follow the procedure in the manual to connect/register a handset to the main console. If you lost a headset, you must first unregister it. I called VTech customer service and got the procedure. First place your headset on the charging dock - the light on the power button should be solid blue. Then quickly move the volume button to the + side, release and press the mute button on the side of the microphone, move the volume button to the - side, release and press the mute button, press the volume button. to the + side and then to the - side, release and press the power button. If you do this quickly enough, the light should now change from solid blue to alternating red and blue, indicating the headset isn't registered. Follow the instructions in the enrollment guide on your primary desktop device. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 due to this issue with the hold line function and lack of procedures or where to program orphaned hardware in their troubleshooting section. . Your customer support was great when I asked for help. Those quirks aside, the phone system is great and I hope it holds up as well as other VTech phones we've had.
