This is a children's box for storing hobbies/crafts and other small items. So the top compartment has flat ledges, doesn't touch the top of the box, and has 2" gaps in the front and back. Every time you tilt the box more than 30 degrees when it is closed and latched, all items will fall off the top shelf and get stuck on other trays. This article is made for children. How many times do you think they will topple this box once it's closed? It took my kid 5 minutes to spill the top tray. So now I had to glue little slip boxes onto the top tray to store her stuff.
