I installed Lubuntu Linux on an 11 year old Asus Eee PC netbook to use as a control computer for a portable digital ham radio station. It required GPS, partly for positioning, but mainly as an accurate time reference for weak signal modes that require synchronized transmit and receive. There are several explanations online on how to install this USB GPS dongle, usually for Raspberry Pi, but the process is the same for any other Linux PC. Check KM4ACK or OH8STN for good YouTube videos and blog posts with step-by-step instructions. I was a bit disappointed at first because the GPS didn't work indoors (I have other GPS-enabled devices), but the seller says this dongle probably won't work indoors because the GPS signals are too weak. I took it outside and it quickly acquired multiple satellites, generated an accurate 3D fix, and updated the PC's system clock.
