This CPU is still the fastest clocked and DDR-optimized CPU I could buy right now. I bought this processor for math applications, photo editing, digital audio applications and of course gaming. I didn't care much about video rendering and graphics creation applications, and wasn't very interested in the CPU's capabilities for embedded video and graphics. And more importantly, I paid significantly less at the time of purchase, about $200 less than the $600 I'm looking at now. For my use and the price I paid, this processor is no less than eleven stars. However, if I had other CPU priorities, I would probably prefer AMD chips. Just a couple of notes: buy a well-tested MB (I chose MSI MEG Ace); Second, buy a reputable CPU cooler that has been tested with this CPU (I chose the Arctic 280mm AIO); and third, use a PC case that optimizes the efficiency of the cooling choices. I wouldn't spend a few hundred dollars on a CPU and then pick cheap key components that make the CPU easy to work with. And yes, this processor requires a discrete GPU, but here you can wait for an update and use the currently available GPU if the budget calls for it.
