I purchased this suit for a water aerobics class, but as soon as I stepped into the pool, the top floated to the surface. It was a constant fight with the suit-top to keep it down, so I tucked it into the shorts. Swimming was not a problem until I had to stand. I don't think it would do well at the beach in waves. If you are looking for a suit to lounge by the pool, it's great. I ordered the purple, it's beautiful and the fabric is substantial. It all depends on what you want to do in the suit!
