Review on Enhance Your Vision 🕶️ with SmartVLT Polarized Coated Titanium Replacements by James Mangum

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Wide spread depending on lens type.

Update 28th February 2020 As my popular brand is no longer sold at Best Buy I ended up buying 2 additional sets of lenses from this company when the black lenses I previously bought cracked. The original rating was for Black Stealth. I recently bought a gray Photochromatic and a fiery red with anti-reflective coating. Gray is good for cloudy days when you just need a small polarizing filter or driving in the rain. Overall the lenses are much thinner than standard lenses (0.8mm at the thickest point with no noticeable taper as measured at the edge of the lens), good polarization, snug fit. However, the transition is too slow to notice in bright light when extending and retracting to be useful. They darken fairly quickly but take a few minutes to lighten up again. I would give these lenses 3 stars. The red ones are more impressive. Mirror image is very good (identical to Oakley's Prizm Ruby), strong polarization and effective AR coating. The fit and finish is also very good. I didn't notice any distortion in the image, but moving your eyes to the edges of the lenses results in a heavier filter. Probably because of the thickness of the lens. OEM lenses are 1.5mm at the bottom edge at the nose and taper to 1.2mm towards the opposite bottom edge. They are 1.7mm at the nose and taper to 1.4mm towards the opposite edge. At the same degree of taper, you'll see a lot more plastic at angles. I don't know exactly what the base is, but the natural colors are washed out (almost a bluish cast). I prefer a more neutral gray base. Overall, I only give 4.5 stars because there is no base color listed in the description for reference. Original: I was looking for the darkest shade I could find for those mornings when I have to drive directly into the sun. Unfortunately they are not advertised that way. The blacks are said to have 8% light transmission, but they're no darker than the 12% lenses I currently own that I tested. I've bought at least 8 different interchangeable lenses over the past few years and it turns out that judging by the packaging, cutouts and inserts some of them are made by the same company under different brand names. It seems to be one of them. Polarization is good, light transmission is ok but not as advertised, shade is good, lens is very thin, fit and finish is very good. The price is reasonable but I will not buy from this company again.

Pros
  • looks good
Cons
  • Corresponds to the description, however, when looking through the lenses, a strange green tint appears on the spots.
