Review on Melamount MM-IPADMINI Video Stabilizer Pro Multimedia Rig For Apple IPad Mini 1/2/3 - Camera Mount And Tripod Stand by Saradhi Suter

It is and it isn't

Was tossing between this and the Iographer. Seen a review on Youtube, seemed like a well done item, liked the brass lens rings for lens (vs plastic) mounting. It is and it isn't. I got the model fitting iPad mini models 1-3.PROs:- Solid construction- 2 tripod mounting points- 4 shoe mounts for accessories- Brass lens mount rings- Comfortable handles for steadying your shots- Comes with what appears to be (not confirmed) a TRS to TRRS mike adapter plugCONs:- Tried many times, various ways but the iPad mini does not "click" into the frame as reviewed on Youtube, just fits very, very tightly tightly. A good couple of shakes and out it comes. You kind of wince when taking it out for fear of possibly damaging your iPad- Brass lens mount rings do not thread to tighten, only to "loose mount". Closer examination reveals no threading, just a single ring. I called Melamount rep (Mike) who confirmed the lens mounts are not threaded for a tight fit, only loose mount (see video)- Handles are a little tricky to fold out, not a deal breaker but can get annoying- Mike adapter plug provided (again, not confirmed if this is a true TRS to TRRS adapter) did not work with my RODE VideoMicro, will need to purchase the SC4 adapter or SC7 cable

Pros
  • No
Cons
  • The size of the Melamount MM-IPADMINI stabilizer rig is quite bulky and may make it difficult to use and carry around in comparison to other more compact options on the market.
