I bought this home use vacuum to replace an Oreck that just couldn't stand it. For my next vacuum cleaner, I wanted something that would last a long time. After reviewing Dyson, Kirby, Miele and other (expensive!) household vacuum cleaners, I got the idea to buy a commercial unit. This thing is strong, almost all metal. The suction power is more than adequate and the beater handles lint on our carpets better than the Oreck. Double speed is useful for small carpets. Noise levels are good - it's much quieter than our Oreck, which is probably partly due to the larger fan spinning at a lower speed. What I love most about this vacuum is that almost every part is cheap (replacement fans are $4!). The insanely long cord means we only have to connect it once per floor, which I think more than makes up for the small hassle of twisting it. And no pointless storage accessories. The only disadvantage compared to our Oreck is the weight and it can still be handled on stairs. In short, if you just want a basic vacuum that will clean your carpets and will probably last forever with the occasional replacement of parts, I think this is a great option. The striking retro 1980s look is just a bonus! I will update if I run into any problems in the near future.
