I would like to say that this is a lot more robust than the previous steps I have taken for my pups. Rubber pads on the bottom prevent slipping when climbing stairs. The height is much higher than my original ladder which now brings it closer to the top of my mattress. I have a very large bed as you can see from the photos. The footboard and posts stick out a bit and prevent the ladder from sitting flush with my bed; So we had to put some pieces of foam rubber between the steps and the bed and cover it with a pillowcase to keep our boys from falling off. When my Japanese chin first tried it slipped off the left side of the bed so I had to move the steps to the right side of the bed. As I moved her to the right side of the bed my Japanese chin had to slow down a bit as that is not the normal orientation of his strides. My Leaf Shih Tzu had to be bribed to get up the steps and he was talking loudly about it the whole time. It will not ascend or descend minor steps. I widened the stairway into one grand stairway and he took advantage of it; however, this defeats the purpose of the cyclic steps. The foam inserts seem to help, and the overall strength and structure of the steps is second to none. If only I could get my unruly Shih Tzu sheet up and down stairs at will, which is why I bought the steps, I'd be a happy hiker. I really think this is a great product that should probably have an insert for large frame beds and maybe some sort of grab bar so the little guys don't fall off trying to get to the bed from the last step. just my thoughts The cat has no problem. I say that I think I will be leaving this product based on the durability and quality, with some minor changes of course.
