I've been buying gingerbread sets from the supermarket for years, but I'm disappointed every time I open them and find the pieces and realize that they taste like cardboard. This year I decided to make them myself so we can actually eat them after the holidays. This is a good shape and price for a complete gingerbread house (4 walls and a V roof) plus a door, 2 individual gingerbread men, 1 gingerbread couple, 2 trees, 1 snowman, Santa on a sleigh, 1 candy bar. reeds, 2 gift boxes and some small roofs - if you want to make some rectangles and houses? I took off 1 star because there were some sticky pieces of red silicone stuck to the inside of the mold, but they were easy to remove. Be sure to wash and dry the molds well. Mine weren't that clean to begin with. There are many gingerbread house recipes online so I figured any would do. Boy was I wrong. First, light molasses is not easy to find. Stores usually sell plain molasses (which is quite dark). The first recipe I used was from foodnetwork dot com and it was a disaster. You'll also need to triple the recipe to use all three shapes. It uses too many cloves and has risen and jumped over the mold. The second recipe I found was perfection! Tip: Don't fill out the forms to the brim. Leave 1/8 inch to allow gingerbread to rise as it bakes. But there's enough at home, a big roof for the house and all the extra little guys. Also, only regular molasses is used, not light molasses. I applied a little Pam spray to the mold before pressing the dough into the mold. Just for extra insurance! A few air bubbles are there, although I gently squeezed them all out, but that doesn't bother me. it looks like a rustic log cabin!
