We don't have cable and don't watch much TV, but we need something for occasional use. Roku is quick and easy to install, but you'll definitely need a fast and reliable internet connection to use it. We had the Roku in a part of the house that didn't have good WiFi, and the Roku kept stopping to get a signal. However, as we improved the signal strength, the Roku didn't stop. Also, make sure people know they need to buy a decent HDMI connector as it doesn't come with it. FYI: Our Roku struggled initially and the screen often freezes. At first we thought it was a Roku issue. However, when we contacted Roku Support, they told us to adjust the HDMI cable - it turned out that a poor connection at the HDMI port or over-tightening the cable was causing static issues on the screen. After this is corrected, the Roku looks normal. Another note is that many of the decent "channels" require a subscription or additional fees. We've found Amazon Prime to work well for our casual use (no, Amazon doesn't pay me to say that :) ) as it comes with a decent selection of shows and movies and we get 2 day shipping. However, keep in mind that most decent channels require a subscription (like Hulu or Redbox and the like - for those who watch little TV, this was new to me). However, there are a large number of free channels, although they have short commercials and aren't the latest or greatest movies/shows. I also thought there would be some "live" channels like news or sports channels, but news channels are like internet stories that are a day old. I was a bit disappointed that there were no live news channels (like CNN or something with short clips, even with ads) or live sports games. They might be able to work on that, as we'll still be seeing ads - like regular TV but with the variety available on Rock. Then it can be equipped with satellite or cable TV as it can broadcast many different games or matches. Finally, the Roku gets pretty hot, so be careful not to touch it. I wish Roku had a power button, but apparently the only option is to disable Roku to turn it off completely. So far we like it so much we bought 2.
