. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't work with any of the use cases I've tried. Mostly audio recording or video editing on equipment from the early 2000s. I'm not sure if I'm speaking correctly, but USB and FireWire are inherently different. Both methods use not only different hardware, but also different software. USB uses ACK/NAK protocol while FireWire uses DMA transfer protocol. In short, FireWire runs at a constant (and high) speed, while USB sends out bursts of data. FireWire requires a processor on both sides of the data transfer. Of course, I found out about it *after* buying this device. So my problem isn't with the device itself. but I can't even imagine how this device could ever be useful.
