This backpack is perfect for my needs. Since I often have to spend most of the day at school, I have to carry a lot of things that I like to keep in order and that can be very difficult. The largest pocket has a padded area for a laptop, which I use every day. It fits my 13" laptop with or without the case I bought for it and I have enough room for a larger laptop. I usually take a folder, a notebook and 1-2 textbooks with me. They all fit great. and I could put more if needed. I use the next size up pouch for snacks, pens, pencils, erasers, i-clicker, hand lotion, a small stapler, etc. Love the organization it provides without the added weight of a pencil. I use the smallest outside pocket for phone charger, headphones and other small items. I use the larger outside pocket for a scientific calculator and sunglasses. It has enough space for both. Sometimes I even take my sunglass case and glasses case and they both fit well. I also like that there are drink holders on either side. I always carry a water bottle with me and the other is sometimes used to store an umbrella or something I have on the shoulder straps are nicely padded and the padding on the back of the bag was a nice surprise. I hope this helps create some ventilation between my back and my bag when the temperature is above 30 degrees and I'm walking around campus. Otherwise, it's great just to have extra padding when carrying the brick on your back. It hadn't rained yet when I wore it, but the fabric combined with the lining seemed to offer good water resistance, as did my umbrella of course. My previous backpack wasn't double lined and water could get in if it got a little wet. It's also nice that both large compartments have double zippers so I can zip them up or open them on either side which I like or in the middle I need my options lol. The soft lining and strong shoulder straps prevent the weight of my bag from hurting my shoulders and back. For reference, I usually walk with it for 20-30 minutes. I really didn't like all the buckles dangling all over the place as I don't use it for hiking or anything like that. So I just cut them off. The straps can also be adjusted for a very tall person or for those who need them much more. I didn't need them at all so I cut them to the right length and had my mom sew them back on and added wear stops to the ends. These small changes were quick and made the backpack absolutely perfect for my needs. I'm so glad I happened upon this bag when I was looking for another one.
