Montessori style math manipulation

Advantages: - Great idea for a math toy! Montessori counting stick idea (check them out too!). There are 12 sticks/blocks from 1" to 12" in height; each shows a different animal. My son loves to combine two animals into a third. At the age of 3, he independently (himself) uses the attached notebook with tasks and even writes the corresponding numbers in the notebook. This is one of the toys he takes and works on himself :) Cons: -When you opened the box, there was a strong smell of something like marker or glue?. The blocks didn't smell, only the box, maybe it was the marker that was in the box. The blocks are made in China. The blocks came with small paint defects and the edges peel off very quickly. The paint finish is glossy, like Thomas and Friends wooden locomotives, but chipping is a lot easier. - On one side of the block there are strips showing inches, like on a ruler, but without numbers. My son counts the strips and always gets one two many (he doesn't know that you don't count the first). It would be better if one inch distances were indicated by alternating colors, like on Montessori counting sticks. Otherwise a perfect game and learning material.
