It's a single piece of full-grain leather that's soft and supple, yet very strong and durable. I really like that this is a real leather strap and not one of those "leather" straps with a coating on the top that end up cracking or breaking. We've had too many of them over the years. The double-stitched edges are beautiful and sewn very well. My son loves the 1.5 inch width. He says it keeps his pants from rolling and moving like thinner belts do. The stainless steel buckle is well made and durable. This is a belt that can be worn with khaki pants or jeans. It looks great no matter how you choose to wear it. I know I've said this before, but it's worth repeating that the craftsmanship of this belt exceeds anything I would expect from a belt at this price point. It's worth a lot more than the $20 I paid.
