Very soft and thick with enough stretch. It hasn't lost its shape with washing and the turtleneck hasn't stretched. My daughter loves this brand and the layered style so much that I had to buy more (I have purple and black now) to keep her from wearing the same thing over and over again. She won't touch her other turtlenecks or long sleeve shirts. She is tall and thin (size 7 in length but 5 in waist) and fits perfectly in sleeve length without being baggy on the body; it's not cozy on her, but just right and warm enough for the snowy Maryland weather with a sweater over. I bought 3 as they are her base coat and they hold up so well.
