Noisy when drive is empty

The drive works but there is a terrible noise when there is no disk in the drive. Also, I have to keep the disc in the drive so the Xbox doesn't wake up if it's unplugged for some reason. Satisfied because he reads and plays games with no problems, only terrible quirks came with him. Maybe by accident?
