I bought these to save money and never buy a filter again. It's been 3 years and they hold up well even to large wall and floor demolition projects. Still using the same filters. My 5 gallon vacuum's suction is good until the filters are exhausted. The problem is that they fill up faster than I expected. You can shake them out, but if you don't take the time to clean them with soap and water, they'll clog up even faster. If the filter is completely clogged it can actually fall off (not sure if this is due to the filter or a shop vacuum). ). Fine dust from drywall or plaster clogs the filter even faster.
