This is a great product and very accurate. You can use it to check the temperature of any object or person. I only used it in human temperature measurement mode. This thermometer is a two step process. When you pull the trigger for the first time, it will turn on and perform a self-test, and the display will show 'LO'. At this point it is ready to use. You then hold the device about an inch from your forehead and pull the trigger again. It takes about 1-2 seconds to read and there will be a beep when you're done. It displays the temperature for 5-8 seconds before turning off.
