So just to set the stage, I am about a 9 handicap and hit the ball pretty straight, slight baby draw, but pretty straight, and I like to work the ball with a draw and a fade. My miss is a duck hook, and I wanted to see how these balls would help that miss. Also, I wanted to know if it would help the super slicers in my foursome.I decided I would play 18 holes, 9 with the Polara and 9 with my trusty ProV1.1st hole - Par 4, 4 hybrid low and super straight piped down the middle of a tight par 4. The first impression is that the ball didn't get very much height, but I figured that was just a bad first swing. I get to my ball with about 108 to the pin thinking cool, little sand wedge should leave me just below the pin and a nice birdy putt. I hit the ball well, and holy crap, I flew the green by about 20 yards. Ok, so maybe I pulled up my big boy pants, and that's on me. Chip back to the green and nice 1 putt for par. Thank god the pin was in because the ball just fired off the putter. Again, thinking that was weird.2nd hole - Par 5, time to bring out the Lama, "big hitter the Lama". Put a good swing on the ball, and again it didn't get any height and had a bizarre, kind of knuckling flight to the ball. The second shot topped the crap of the ball, so my fault. Thrid shot 165 yards to the middle of the green with a slight wind, so perfect 8 iron. Put a good swing on the ball, and it flys dead straight at the pin, and crap, I flew the green again. Damnit, ball is in the hazard, drop, chip, and three putts. Triple! Just as before, the ball fires off the putter.3rd hole - Par three, redemption hole. 186 yards to the flag, little wind behind, and a good 7 iron hole. Another good swing on the ball, and it's straight as an arrow covering the flag, until I notice it's going, going.crap long again. Drop, chip, and another 3 putt.So without making this review any longer, I shot a 49 on the front nine with the Polara balls. I hit 4 of 7 fairways with two of the 3 missed fairways being long, 3 three putts and lots of missed greens long.I put my trusty ProV1 in play on the back nine and shot a 38, only missing 2 fairways and 1 three putt.I found with the Polara ball that I wasn't getting the height from my longer clubs that I got from the ProV1, and I was losing significant distance off the tee with the driver, around 20 yards but absolutely smashing my irons long, about 10 extra yards. Also, the pop off the ball from the putter was crazy, and I found it very hard to control the speed of my putts.Do they fly straight? Absolutely, but if you work the ball with a draw or fade, forget about it you can't.For the better player, stick to your normal ball, but for someone who struggles with hitting the ball straight, this may make the game a bit more fun and help you lower your scores.
