First of all, I've been using the Deeper Pro+ for a number of years. My son just started fishing again after a few years. I wanted to buy him a Deeper to help him out as he mainly fishes from shore and kayaks. I tried it out before giving it to him and found that it's not at all an entry-level base unit. When open it is very strong and well built yet lightweight. It doesn't open like my Pro+ model, but charges externally with the included USB charging cable. It had some of the features of my Pro+ model, was surprised to see the fish ID showing 'fish' symbols and the actual depth of each fish tagged. There is also a live display of actual water depth and a good map of the lake bottom. This is ideal for the beginner or casual angler. The presence of a sonar, like the guys from the "Boats" from the shore, is a real plus! The downloadable app also includes a weather screen showing current and future conditions, as well as a solar calendar and moon phases, which I personally find useful. The app also allows you to document your catch and take photos of your trophy straight from the Deeper app so you can keep a log. Overall very impressed with the performance of such a reasonably priced device. I know my son will love having this tool in his arsenal. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a cheap portable fish finder without sacrificing quality. For me, Deeper "Start" gets an A++. Now that I'm done I think I should give it to my son!
