Novelty for the visually impaired

MyEye2 changed everything for my mom who is in her 90's and battling macular degeneration. I bought it for her because I didn't expect her to be able to handle a complex, high-tech device, but Orcam did a really good job of simplifying the controls enough that she could. I only had to demonstrate the basic functions and she was able to start using them effectively very quickly. She was hooked before she even knew about facial recognition, barcodes and currency! Orcam customer service contacted me as soon as the order was placed and they were extremely responsive and clearly committed to the success of their product. I was particularly impressed that it doesn't require a network connection to work, making it truly portable. Battery life is an issue, but a USB drive helps with that. The price is also an obvious challenge, but for my mother, who has been an avid reader all her life and struggled to stay connected to the world, it really was a worthwhile investment. The T-Coil interface for their hearing aids will be a welcome improvement, tip!
