These filters for the NV1001 "base" unit (self-cleaning base on Shark) are slightly shorter than the filters that come with the new unit which are "high" enough are the full length of the device holding them - it looks like a small "basket". This product does not cover the length of the pole they are placed on. So when installing the filter it is imperative that they cover the holes in the stem, which you can do if you gently slide the filter 'up' so that they actually cover the holes. Otherwise - if you just put the filter in place it wouldn't be high enough to cover all the holes and debris would seep out of the block and into the engine - bad scene! Although listed as corresponding to the original product number for Felt and Foam Precleaner Base Filter Kit #106KY1000AE. So my workaround works, but it would be nice if the product lived up to its standards.
