The NutriBullet is a great little blender. (I have a 600W model that I bought from Costco.) But the blade and jar assembly is the weakest part of the system. I love NutriBullet and would buy it again. I would give the whole system 4 stars. The best way to think of it is that the blade and cup assembly are consumables. Like ink cartridges for your printer. Depending on your use, you will need to replace blades and cups on a regular basis. Blades: We make 2-3 smoothies a day. After about 9 months the blade unit starts to dangle a bit. You will then start to see black goo on the underside of the blade assembly. Eventually, the blades become very stiff and stop spinning. Cup: The weak point here is the three tabs that attach the cup to the motor. These tabs are made of plastic. With use, the tabs will begin to wear out. You can fail in two ways: 1. You get stuck in the car and you have to unplug the car to turn it off. 2. One or more tabs break and the bowl becomes unusable. I have no doubt that the blade and cup assembly can be designed to last longer. However, they were probably developed for a certain price. And I can't even blame that decision. It may be that the blender just wouldn't sell enough to be successful if it was more expensive. So Blades and Mugs are consumables. They are not expensive. Update July 2018: First: The knife assembly lasts 6-9 months for me. With careful use, the cups will last longer. I've been using the current mug for about 18 months. Secondly, on the Amazon web pages it is difficult to tell whether you are getting Nutribullet parts or parts from a third party. I received both. Both seem to work the same way. I think this item (NutriBullet Cup and Blade Replacement Kit) is an OEM. NutriBullet Extractor replacement blade fits Nutribullet 600W/900W models (1 piece, grey) Appears to be a third party blade assembly. Third, you MUST clean the gasket in the blade assembly. Nutribullet doesn't tell you that. But if you don't, you'll get dirt under the gasket after a while. This is probably why some reviewers complained about the bad smell. It can be difficult to remove the spacer from the blade assembly. I use a butter knife. I read once a day.
