Review on 🐾 PetSafe ScatMat Indoor Training Mat: 7 Modes, Protect Furniture & Train Pets - Threshold Size (46x3in) - Battery-Operated by Karen Peterson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I miss the old "power " modules that plug into an external power source

I've had scatmats for many years. One goes outside our bedroom door (along with the kids gate) to keep cats out as this is my wife's "clean room". Well, the wire in this rug came out of the vinyl, broke and stopped working. So I ordered these. The module that attaches to the mat does not support an external power supply like older models did. This was a real disappointment as we tend to step on the mat from time to time and I don't see the 9 volt battery lasting all that long. This was the case with the previous mat and module, so I used an external 9V power supply instead of a battery. To replace the 9V battery in a new module I have to separate the module from the mat as the battery compartment is on the bottom. Bad design decision, IMHO. With the old one, I didn't have to separate the module from the mat because. Access to the battery compartment was from the top (not the bottom) of the module. I tried a module from a previous defective mat on a new mat, but it seems that the electrical properties of the new mat are different from the old mat; not much shock even on the highest settings. So, I think I'll change 9 volt batteries every 3-4 months. If it takes 6 months as announced, I will edit my review. Also, for my purpose, I want a carpet with embedded wires to be strong enough to withstand light foot traffic for 3-5 years. I would pay 20% more for a more durable mat. After these negative points, I still support Scatmat as an effective deterrent to unwanted pet behavior. Okay. at least until one of the adult cats realizes that she can jump both the ramp and the children's gate.

Pros
  • VACUUM TOOL: When your pet steps onto the mat, they will feel a safe but frightening correction that will keep them from entering the restricted area
Cons
  • Not sure
