I use many of them for a couple of decades or more at work, daily. They usually last about a year before the tape finally breaks. Sometimes you have to take them apart and clean the spring or re-tension it when it gets weak, but that's easy. I never erase the numbers, they just cut off the ends. I love them and depend on them. I carry an MM in my left pocket and an inch in my right. These new ones are not of the quality I expected and have received in the past. These may be fakes and not "genuine" Lufkin straps. The die-cutting of the case halves is bad, a sharp edge sticks out. I can't imagine how they passed quality control if they are legal. I will take them apart and put new straps and springs in the old cases I have instead of sending them back.
