Does everything I need

After throwing away my Panasonic DMR-EZ485VK 1080p VHS DVD recorder with built in tuner I decided to buy a DVD/VHS recorder and went with it Toshiba model. I couldn't be happier. I've had numerous reading and blocking problems on Panasonic DVDs. I had no such problems with this Toshiba player. While DVDs don't look as good as Blu-Ray, they still look pretty good, and unless you can afford both Blu-Ray and a DVD/VHS player, you won't be disappointed with the looks of DVDs. with this car. I read some reviews that thought the instructions were complicated. Well, what can I say, I haven't read the instructions for the Panasonic DMR-EZ485VK. Trust me, the manual that came with this player/recorder is MUCH better. The instruction manual that came with the Toshiba is quite large (7.5 x 10 inches), the font is a decent size and well illustrated. I don't know how much easier they could make it. Let's face it, this recorder has many features and many options to choose from depending on what type of recording media you choose. Toshiba should explain them all as they don't know which ones you will be using. Trust me if you just follow the instructions you will be able to figure it out. With this unit I have had no problem and successfully burning off-air TV programs to DVD (actually I use a two-way splitter configuration which was not included in the brochure). , but gave me more flexibility due to the number and type of inputs my TV has). I gave up cable so I can't comment on the cable record. And if you're wondering if I'm actually using the DVD player part since I have a Blu-Ray, the answer is yes. Sometimes you just want to leave a disc in your Blu-ray player because you can't watch it in full and want to pick up right where you left off. So having an extra DVD player comes in handy when I want to pop in an exercise DVD for a workout or watch a TV show I taped at work earlier in the day (something that really "shouldn't") . playable on Blu-ray). So until there are cheap Blu-ray burners, I'll be happy to use them for recording.

Pros
  • TV and video
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
