Closed metal eyelets for shoelaces render the boot unusable. The boot itself is A1 if it had lace hooks instead of closed sharp hoops. You CANNOT tighten the laces tightly/neatly enough, the laces will be chewed immediately. The boots are made of natural suede and the soles appear to be quite well made with a nice design and tread pattern. The inner padding throughout the boot ensures a super comfortable fit. In my opinion, if I could lace my boots properly, they would even be suitable for running and would be sufficient for active tactical use. I've tried smoothing out the sharp edges with a dremmel, but to no avail. In fact I love everything else about the boots so much that rather than retire I decided to keep them and ordered eyelets with hooks and will try to replace the junk originals. I will post pictures if all goes well. I nearly forgot that. beautiful, very comfortable insert for the insole.
