Firm, does what's expected of it, grinds and softens. Not 5 stars because if you put it in the dishwasher even after the chrome/buff finish has washed off to a matte oxidized finish. Does it affect his ability to hit, punch and flatten? No, but if you order a nice chrome meat tenderizer, hope it lasts more than a day! Edited to 4 stars - because it remains 100% functional despite the looks. The owner was kind enough to contact me with care instructions and to offer to replace the item (which I declined as the hammer still works fine). No more landfills need to be added.
