I love both but prefer the fork because it's almost like a spork. My nephew hates using forks and spoons and is constantly trying to use his hands, I let him try the spoon and fork and bam my daughter he liked it. Bought my first set from tjmax and after seeing my nephew use a fork and I have no problems I bought two more sets. I'm not sure what age to start, but I have a lot of them. other spoons, but this one is very handy because it's wider and doesn't slip in your hand. My girl was about 15m and my nephew was 2.5 years old.
