Review on Stens 385 581 Power Rotary Scissors by Shantel Griffin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great but absolutely NOT for commercial use.

These rotary shears are high quality, durable and definitely sharp. They do exactly what is advertised. But there are a few things to consider that are mostly harmful for commercial or everyday use. For context: I work weekly, trimming and mowing lawns. I have about 4-5 lawns on a typical day. I thought the rotary shears would be great for mulch beds and areas where I need to control cutting. However, I have come to the conclusion that this device is not suitable for commercial use. Pros: - no goggles required, no throwing debris in unwanted spots - ideal for lawns and homeowners (once/twice a week) - durable, lasts long Cons (outweigh the pros): - heavy. I'm a physically fit person so I figured that wouldn't be a problem. but it is absolutely true. My forearms are tired after 10-15 minutes of use. Because of this, I found that I didn't want to crop the extra areas. It's gotten more tedious than anything else, and on jobs that involve a lot of trimming, it's tiring. I was relieved to switch back to the trimmer to get some work done. - Cropping the cover. The head of this nozzle has a much smaller cutting radius than that of a conventional grass trimmer. It takes forever to cut the same ground with this head, not cut it with a string trimmer. much less time efficient. If you're cutting anywhere over 1.5 to 2.0 inches, I wish you the best of luck trying not to scalp your lawn. When you work for commercial purposes, time is of the essence. I found that I had to be extremely careful to levitate on the lawn and not scalp any areas. Because of its weight, it can be difficult to maintain an even cut. Add speed to the equation and it makes it twice as hard. - Excerpts. this one is unfortunate because I didn't expect its sole purpose to become a disadvantage. Due to the action of the scissors, trimmings begin to pile up in all areas over 2.0 inches. It actually becomes a problem to maintain an even height of cut because you can't see what you're cutting when all the scraps are piling up on your head. The other downside here is that you have to clean up that clippings and it also has to be blown away or you'll leave tufts of grass where you mow - that's noisy. louder than a lawn trimmer head. At the same time, hearing protection is necessary, which is expensive. Finally, I strongly recommend that you DO NOT purchase this for commercial use.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
