The last laptop cooling pad I had was the Cooler Master NotePal X3. It didn't even help half as much as this pill. I have an MSI Apache Pro GE72 which can play most games on medium to high settings. However, depending on the game and settings, this can lead to very high temperatures (especially the CPU temperature). I recently tried to play a game that I've been playing for a while and the CPU and GPU temperatures hit high 80s/low 90s (Celsius). While laptops are rated for higher temperatures than desktops, I found it uncomfortable to play games in those temperatures for long periods of time. That meant I couldn't play it. I recently got my money back for a new game specifically because of this issue. I expected a slight to moderate improvement. If this laptop stand got the temp in the 70's I'd be happy. It's not like this. This brought them down to 48C-51C. That's a *big* improvement. I even turned on the graphics and changed the shift mode to green mode (green mode is a mode in the MSI Dragon utility designed to lower temperatures at the expense of performance). Without change. I mean, I've only seen these temp files messing around in my browser, never while playing (even in a game that doesn't require a lot of resources like Stardew Valley). Well, as mentioned in other reviews, the rubber grommet that comes preinstalled on 15 inch laptops. It comes with a large 17 inch laptop and there is more space on the shim to install this shim. It's extremely easy to install (essentially just inserting a rubber ring into a four-point socket where the ring engages cleats, neither of which includes a wrestling hoop). My laptop has two ventilation areas, a very large one in the middle and a very small one on the back and sides, so the panel only touches the middle one. I can move the laptop off-center so that the small vent is (probably) over the fans, but since my laptop has feet, the smaller vent is unobstructed and no additional cooling is required. However, my laptop (because of the legs) does not sit flush with the padding. So I can feel some air escaping. Regardless, the cooling is fantastic. Obviously this pad will only work if you have air vents on the bottom of your laptop. The liner comes with these little "cushions" that fit over the liner vents if your laptop has vents on the back (I have). They are positioned horizontally with the liner and simply block airflow between the laptop's exhaust vents and the liner's intake vents. The dampers are just black thin cardboard/paper so I think they will get damaged over time especially if you move your laptop around a lot. But it's still a nice touch and you can easily fit something more permanent or change shocks easily. There are also plastic hooks on the front that slide across the face of the laptop to hold it in place. I was disappointed at first because they didn't reach out (my laptop is quite thick), but these cleats are actually very adjustable. They are adjustable up/down and there are extra slots you can put them in so you can move your laptop forward/backward on the stand. They are also easily removable. So the hooks fit fine once I figure it out. And the last thing adjustable is the legs. Very, very height and tilt adjustable. As for the light, I didn't care. I'm not buying this for lighting, I'm buying this to prevent my laptop from cracking and breaking due to high temperatures. But as mentioned in another review, there aren't seven solid colors. There are three of them: blue, green and fuchsia. There is also a color changing light that cycles through all colors and then some (sea green, orange, yellow, white, light pink, etc.). The light can also be easily turned off while the fans are running. If we talk about fans, they are decently loud regardless of speed. It doesn't bother me because I listen to music while I play, but I can see that it annoys some people. But I think it was worth it. However, the slowest speed is barely perceptible when playing videos through the DOSS Soundbox speaker. Finally, as previously mentioned, this rug is not for your knees. It is not designed for this and is relatively heavy (for a pillow).
