I read the reviews and got a medium because people had said to go up in size.but in general if you want this to be tight I would have gone down a size cause you can open up the ribbon if you need. I have a 29" waist and I am shorter in the torso so I was looking for something not so long. The metal clasps are pretty durable and as for costume use which I use it for it is what I need.but not a true waist sincher by any means. It is stretchy and sexy!
