Unfortunately, the manufacturer believed that tough conditions could only be met by heavy things. On their own they don't really matter, and it really doesn't matter if you're just going on a hike, but if you're backpacking they're way too heavy. The size is good and spacious. In the medium size, we put 3 complete changes of clothes on my daughter who wears an adult size XS and S. We rolled the clothes for the army and it will migrate but it will only use the medium size. We will use other sizes for car camping. The roll-up top is a nice feature, but it definitely adds weight. I haven't tested it for water resistance (probably shouldn't) but hopefully water won't seep in through a water fly, backpack, and semi-waterproof bags.
