Firstly when the capsule is not screwed in properly there is a lot of noise and sometimes you have to screw them in more than once but they actually sound pretty good compared to the Sure KSM32 $500 off . I've been addicted to the Rode PodMic since I got it, it sounds great so my expectations for Real Simple News with Cale McCollough are pretty high. I compared these mics to about 6 other budget mics, I was obsessed with finding the best cheap mic and they can compete with PodMic and KSM32; the noise is really very small. The frequency response graph they provided shows a REALLY flat frequency response. No mic at a distance will ever sound as good as a good close-up large-diaphragm mic (<3 inches), but these supercardioid condensers sound a lot better than my KSM32 at 4 feet. The KSM32 sounds crappy and is very bad at catching cars.
