Review on Enhance Home Security with Kwikset 99070-103 Powerbolt 2 Keyless Entry Deadbolt in Venetian Bronze by Richard Surveh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Love it! Just bought another one!

I followed the instructions carefully and was able to install and program this lock in about 15 minutes using an existing deadbolt. This is my first keyless lock and I'm trying it out on a side door, so I didn't want to pay more money for cool features like phone monitoring. I've really liked it so far and have bought the exact same thing for my tailgate. I bought this 907 instead of the 264 because the 907 has a smart key feature that allows you to reuse existing keys so you can open all the doors with a single pick. Unfortunately I have found that your other key (which I already use on my front door/other doors) needs to be the same size/size, most likely a Kwikset key. My other key didn't fit in the slot so it couldn't be reinstalled. Pros: - Very easy to install. Installation took approximately 10 minutes, including removal of the existing latch. Allow an additional 10-15 minutes if you need to make any changes to your door (mine is in the same spot as my old latch). Programming is intuitive. Once you've followed the instructions for clearing the master code (the recommended first step in programming), you'll find that programming the rest is just as easy. - You can turn on/off the auto lock and set the time from 10 to 60 seconds. I've set mine to 20 seconds for now. - You can turn the key beep on and off. - I like backlit keys. - At first I thought it would be cumbersome to use 2 numbers with the same button, but you'll soon get used to it. Cons: - I can't re-enter my existing house key. Most likely the original key must also be a Kwikset key or have the same size/grooves. - I wish there was a volume setting for loud/quiet beeps. At the moment you can only enable/disable the key beep. If you find it too loud (as some reviewers have mentioned), your only option is to turn it off entirely. As long as the lock is installed on the side door, the volume of the horn doesn't bother me. - The battery cover is tight. It takes some force to remove the battery cover - basically you pinch the sides together and push up. They could develop a better mechanism. - No battery indicator. I'm picky here. I'm a little curious as to what happens when the battery dies and I most likely don't have the key with me (that's a keyless lock, after all, isn't it?).

Pros
  • Equipped with a SmartKey security system that protects against advanced tampering techniques and allows you to enter keys into the lock yourself in seconds
Cons
  • Upgradeable
