Old design that still works at low frequencies

First the cons, which you should already know from the description: The fan is not PWM. If you read the description carefully you'll already understand this, but that means it's nowhere near the quietest cooler you can buy. Ventoo has (only) a cooler for Intel which is only $2 more at the time of writing and is quite similar to this one (although it's a little less like a UFO and has PWM. If you can use PWM and pump more modest info chip go for this one because it will be quieter rgb is a standard rotating rainbow puke effect problem you can't change or control it in any way considering that... and it works for low level cooling to an amd processor with the AMD brackets that came installed on your AMD motherboard when it was a new AMD I don't know if this cooler was designed for them or if it just happened - it was designed for previous Intel sockets and just fits for later. It outperforms the cheap aluminum heatsinks that come with some Intel chips, but most of them now have some copper in them. This works the same as these, except a lot louder (audible and visual). Insert the pins into the center holes to line up the bracket (be careful not to lose them!), then use a screwdriver to push them all the way into the holes on the board. I didn't want to get up all the way. You then insert the black pins into the clear pins to widen them at the bottom to attach the frame to the board. If you've ever done any of these things, it's not hard at all, just a little awkward. At this point, near the corners, pull the frame a little. Not difficult, mind you, just... make sure it snaps into place - that's how I found a pin wasn't seated properly. You did it), hook the spring clip to one side of the frame, then carefully place it in place. I can guarantee I'll always have a mess of thermal paste under this thing whenever I take it off because everything is in place. The fan protrudes slightly from the base. It wasn't difficult either, but if there was a "hardest part" then that was it. (No, the word "hard" was back in the socket. Back when we put these things on bare CPU dies and tried to fix it with a screwdriver... It's a lot easier to install than this one, and a lot less delicate.) All in all, this cooler was designed to be versatile enough for Intel LGA processors of the lower to middle price range. It works with much newer stuff. It's not a miracle cooler, but it might be just what you need at a reasonable price. But if you need more than this thing offers, keep looking. My advice to Ventoo, unless they're just getting rid of old stock, is to replace the fan in this thing with a PWM.
