I bought a kit to replace the spring loaded safety spout on my 5 gallon gas bottle. It fitted well at first, but within a few months the spout, lock nut and rubber washer began to fail. My last attempt at using a jerry can was a complete failure as every time I tried to fill up the fuel it would spill past the bottom of the spout and all over my car. On closer inspection, the outlet flange is very thin. . This is the flange that will seal the top of the fuel tank. The rubber washer that is supposed to seal the lock nut to the outlet also fails, possibly due to excessive wear on the lock nut, which deforms on its mating flange (see fig.). All in all, the only part that actually worked properly was the vent cap, which I placed on top of the jar. This design and quality is also not suitable for occasional use. I've removed and reinstalled the spout probably 10-12 times and only had a few months of use before the entire assembly failed. There has to be a better solution to the problem than this particular product.
