It's kind of a guessing game about the right size. The table shows that L is suitable for Beagles, Bassets and Labradors. Well I have a 46lb Aussie who will be much larger than a Beagle or Basset Hound but smaller than a Labrador. Why they put the Labrador in this category in the first place is beyond me. So I chose XL. It was too big and slipped on his head, and he kept tangling his foot in it trying to get it off. So I ordered a large one which was too small. It suffocated him. So I would say the size Large might suit a Beagle sized dog but not an Aussie. We brought back Large and used XLarge, but not for long. We ended up using a rescue suit we bought for another dog that covers the genitals so he doesn't lick himself after neutering. Much more convenient and stayed. Nothing but a cone will really stop them from getting into the area you want to keep them from licking, but a rescue suit (see photo) seemed to work best. I would still recommend this pillow as he is used to it and able to work with a small dog. It actually worked the first day when he was still tired from the medication.
