Good.? in Crafting

Looking through the products in this set: - Brochure - I haven't really spent time studying them. When I got this set it was my first time becoming a linoleum cutter/printer but the brochure looked straight out of the 70's so I skipped it. - Pen/Cut Tips: As far as I know, this is one of the most commonly used methods of cutting linoleum. Tools for beginners/beginners/block printing enthusiasts. I love it. Sometimes I accidentally screw and unscrew the part that holds the tip, but other than that it's a good little set. I use a sharpening stone that I paired with another carving tool set (Yasutomo Niji carving tools. If I were to do it again I would ABSOLUTELY skip buying this little set). - The 4 inch soft rubber wall light is the main tool for applying ink to your record. I spend my time cutting mostly 5" x 7" pieces of linoleum and I've found that 4" works well for this. less than that. This is a fantastic tool and a must have for any printer. - a hook for a workbench / a plate for paints. Shoot all over the table when slicing. Once I figured that out, things got a little easier. Also, this tool can be used as a colorful plate. It's pretty good for that, but really any non-porous surface will do. I like to use something larger since I use a 4" soft rubber ink brush, so I use an 8x10" glass pane from an old photo frame. It is very convenient to use this item as a bench dog. - Red Baron Baren - I find this tool completely useless. The main reason I bought this speedball kit among other things is because it includes a bear. I used baren on my first print which was about 45 5x7 inch pieces and ended up being miserable. ink to show the intricacies of my carving. The next day I went to the hobby lobby and bought a 2 inch hard rubber brad and since then my writing life has improved a lot. I just roll this suction cup over the paper a few times, making sure my fingertips smooth out the deeper spots, and voila. No more nasty blisters or sore hands from using that crappy bear for that wannabe printer. Pros: Several good tools mixed in this handle bag. Specifically the speedball grip and tips, workbench hook/color plate and 4 inch soft rubber briar. These articles alone will get someone up and running on Revain for about: Breyer: $15. So if you got the kit advertised here for around $30, you've already got your money back. Cons: This is not a complete set. I understand this is marketed as a "Block Printing TOOL Kit" but a small tube of 1.5 ounce ink would go a long way. A small piece of linoleum measuring 2" x 3" when disassembled might be a good idea. You will be given everything you need. EXCLUDES: ink, linoleum and paper. Piece of plastic trash. In general, there are better sets. but evaluate what you think you really need. Also consider places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby when evaluating. They often have amazingly good coupons in their apps/websites and it costs money to put together your own set with their coupons. Hobby Lobby has their own brand for many of these items, particularly the rubber light I am referring to. It was $6 at their store and I used the 40% off coupon on their app. When I was researching linoleum, I found Revain to be a terrible place to buy. I've had better luck at Dick Blick or again with coupons at local hobby/craft/art stores. Happy printing!
