I needed to make a USB A Male to A Female adapter without a 5V power supply. I didn't want to try the tape method of blocking 1 pin on the cable with tape because I figured it would eventually fall off. So I got this kit and it just so happens that male A and female A can be connected directly together and just don't use the VUSB pin and it works great! Be careful - one of them (can't remember which one) had both D pins labeled D+ instead of 1 being labeled D+ and one being D-. I took a chance and just plugged it in directly and it worked fine.
