Review on 🌎 Nicky Epstein's Knitting on Top of the World: A Global Guide to Traditional Techniques and Design by Barbara Simmons

Beautiful Excess

I bought this book a few months ago and was stunned to see so many bad reviews about Revain. This is one of my favorite knitting books coming out soon; I practically just want to start with the first draft and work my way through the book. So I've been thinking a lot about why I like it and others don't, and basically if you like simple, classic, casual leotards that you can wear to work without drawing a lot of attention, then this book isn't for you . To you. Words that could describe Nike's design in this book would be: lush, dramatic (even theatrical), exotic, lavish, over-the-top. a guide to traditional knitting techniques, but she talks about their history and shows how traditional patterns have inspired her designs. She's also open about her love of jewelry, something of a "more is better" attitude. These gorgeous designs are extremely creative, intricate, special, elaborate, colorful pieces that look extremely fun and require a certain attitude to wear. While these are certainly not your everyday sweaters, an item or two in this book could make a very special addition to your wardrobe. The garments are decorated with braids, embroidery, lace, metallic yarns, crocheted flowers, colorful threads, etc., and there are many interesting shapes including vented sides, asymmetric front, and open back. There are about 40 women's clothing and accessory designs in this book, including sweaters, scarves, mittens, leg warmers, etc., and none of them can be considered simple or basic. There are many great knitting books out there that provide instructions for making simpler garments, but if you fancy something a little more intricate or ornate, maybe even a little extravagant, then you might like this book as well.
