Slow auto focus on digital cameras

The auto focus on this camera is very slow. It was VERY difficult to get sharp shots of our dogs as they are constantly moving and the camera is constantly trying to refocus. You can do this by pointing the camera at a still subject, pressing the shutter button halfway and HOLDING it there. This will set the focus and exposure and hold it for as long as you hold the shutter button down. Then, half-press the button, rotate the camera to the image you want to capture, and press the button all the way down. Unfortunately, you need to select a stable subject with similar lighting and distance for this to work. I think the problem gets worse when zooming in close with a telephoto lens. Camera shake and subject movement affect the autofocus software more clearly. I've had better luck with an older 12MP Fuji camera and photographed with my dogs :( Colors and skin tones come out fine unless you use a flash as a secondary light. Now you have a problem with white balance because the Color temperature of the flash and the light in the room will be different. This is a problem with any JPEG camera. You can fix it with post processing if your camera shoots in RAW mode. This camera seems to have more problems when the room is well lit and you add a flash as fill The camera is easy to use and the zoom works very well. General shots of people and landscapes are good.
