The product description says"The lace closure with leather. Allows the backpack to be opened and closed quickly". The problem is that this is a complete lie. The lanyard is a cosmetic device that has no function and is just a piece of string that goes in one eyelet and immediately comes out of the next, without attaching to anything inside, without winding anything, without tightening anything when pulled out and whatsoever no function to offer .to close the bag. This supposed feature that is NOT REAL was the main reason I chose this backpack, so 1 out of 5 stars plus shame and contempt for Huachen for designing a stupid feature for the backpack and then lying to everyone about it.
