Wow! This thing gets terrible reviews. I installed it in August 2011 and still no problems (knock on wood). I use an activated carbon filter and it helped a lot with the dirty smell my water had and no more rust from city pipes ruining clothes in the washing machine. When changing the filter I found that holding the pressure release button down while unscrewing the housing helped a lot. There's a lot of nasty stuff floating on the dirty side of the filter, so it looks like it's doing something. May I suggest that if you are installing a whole house water filter that you install the filter shut-off devices with a bypass so that if there is a problem with the filter you can turn off the water supply and bypass it when you are not out of water and not looking for a replacement.4-9-2019 Still working fine. I just replaced the filter and no problem. The O-ring was pressed onto the new filter with difficulty. I've been running the charcoal filter longer than I should. 26,000 gallons. Should have changed at 20,000 gallons. I'll post a selection of thick dirt stuck to it.
