If I'm ironing a whole load of clothes, I'd prefer an old-fashioned iron and board. But mostly I just want to freshen up clothes that I've worn and can wear again before washing but need freshening up, or something that's wrinkled from sitting in a drawer. This clothes steamer is perfect for that. It's small enough to fit in the corner of my bedroom. Its footprint is roughly the same as that of a vacuum cleaner. I've had good results over the past few days steaming a light sweater that's terribly wrinkled and a knit dress. Each only lasted a few minutes. This would be a five star product if it weren't for the following points: * Hanger could be bigger. When I hung up my lightweight steam sweater, which is only women's size small or medium, the shoulders sagged and hunched. This device would benefit from a hanger that looks more like a coat hanger, or better yet, just a slot to hang your own hangers. This way, you could take an item out of the closet without removing the hanger, steam it, and then put it back. Clothing. There must be some sort of locking/unlocking mechanism to hold it in place until you intentionally remove it. * The hose is a little short. Combined with the ease with which the center rod pops out, I can't imagine how you would use it to clean curtains. To clean the curtains I have to somehow lift this whole block up a few steps on a ladder or ladder, but given how easily the pole can be extended I'm not sure how good I am at that. And if I picked him up there and he started to tip over or slide down and I grabbed the pole to try and save him, I was left with the pole in my hand and the water canister fell down the stairs.* The wheels only on hard floors roll easily. They don't really roll on carpet. Coupled with the fact that the boom extends too easily, this makes maneuvering difficult*. All three of the above factors combine in some ways to make it harder to use than it should be. To steam the wrong side of the garment, you either have to detach it from the hanger, flip it and then reattach it, or you have to flip the entire unit without accidentally pulling out the center bar, which is quite difficult on a carpeted floor. All of this says that I like this car. It's more convenient than a handheld steamer (no pun intended), although it takes up little space. One thing I didn't know until reading the manual is that you should steam your clothes from the bottom up, as the rising steam will smooth out wrinkles. I've found this to work really well for both removing wrinkles and refreshing fabrics without over-wetting them. results of course. they are not as clear as those of an iron. And although the instructions say to empty the tank with each use. I think if you use it at least a few times a week you don't have to. I will use it almost every day.
