I have an instant thermometer that I use all the time. It's accurate and I'm happy with how it works. The only problem is that the display is difficult to see in low light. This backlit display with red numbers is much easier to read regardless of the lighting. Open the probe and the display will light up immediately. Turn the thermometer and the display will also rotate so the numbers are always right side up. What a great idea! You can even press a button and freeze the number for five seconds, giving you time to take it out of your meal and get closer to reading it. There is also a button to toggle the readings from Fahrenheit to Celsius. One AAA battery is required for operation, which is included in the scope of delivery. All you have to do is loosen the screw on the back to remove the flap and insert the battery. In terms of accuracy, it registered temperatures within half a degree or less of my other thermometer, making it more than acceptable. So far I've tried it with chicken and steaks and it's worked as intended. The only downside is the chart on the back of the unit that lists temperatures for regular meat, but the temperatures are incorrect. 145 degrees for poultry is not enough. Should be 165. The temperature of beef and pork is too high. You will have shoe leather. As long as you don't stick to the chart, you'll be happy with this thermometer and how it takes the guesswork out of cooking a variety of foods.
