So my truck was made around the time they were first used but not actually used on it. He had a regular cap with an expansion tank. This worked fine, but after replacing my cooler, which was slightly underperforming, I found that the system wanted to clear and wasn't retracting properly to keep the system full. Going to higher altitudes is so annoying that the system also starts to boil. I added this to the overflow tank with a check valve so if there is a vent the system can cycle back up to where the tank is. It also created a great vent for any air in the system and slightly increased the capacity of the system. The only thing I would wish for would be a nipple for the system to blow through, but honestly I don't think this will be a big problem as there actually needs to be a little air every now and then.
