OK, this is MUCH better than I expected. I will only be using it with two laptops and I can see that some people have had issues with the middle slot (which isn't adjustable) but for my needs this thing is great. The thumbscrew is actually threaded through the base, so turning it will pull the base in or out, and it's pretty well threaded that adjusts the width at a good rate - no feeling of over-tightening, and no fear that it weakens itself. The base is molded and has enough weight not to tip over (at least on 13-inch MacBooks). Highly recommended. Hopefully the manufacturer doesn't change it too much or make it cheaper in the future.
